Barrio Chino by Pok Chi Lau

$50.00

The book, with photos and poems by the artist, presents interior spaces inhabited by Cuban Chinese throughout the island, made between 2009-2019. Intimately detailing the places the diaspora live, work and gather, the images and text reveal the well-being, religious and social and political environments of their reality and aspirations.

Born in British Hong Kong in 1950, Pok Chi Lau has spent decades documenting the Chinese Diaspora and global migration, capturing stories far more plentiful than the fish he intended to catch. A Professor Emeritus of PhotoMedia at the University of Kansas, Lau’s work spans photography, poetry, and essays, blending art and social commentary that have been exhibited, published, and celebrated internationally.
